OTL has had the privilege of working with distinguished New York City architectural firm Janson Goldstein on several previous projects. So, when partner Mark Janson reached out regarding a duplex renovation, we jumped at the chance to collaborate once again. The project presented a significant structural scope, combining the third and fourth floor apartments into a single duplex with a double height living room. Janson Goldstein's thoughtfully detailed design and rich material selections offered OTL an opportunity to show off the craftsmanship and careful coordination we are known for.
The Details
The steel truss staircase was precision fabricated in Austria before being shipped in pieces to NYC and assembled on site by a team of specialty metal workers.
Steel frame windows and custom skylights flood the apartment with natural light and recall an older style of glazing appropriate for the building's vintage.
The project also included a new roof deck which opened up livable space previously occupied by mechanical equipment.
Each bathroom required several slabs of marble which were symetrically book-matched and joined with mitered corners for a seamless look that highlights the stone's natural character.
